We already mentioned that the Google Meet Hardware interface is changing, but Google Meet has now also gotten a (literal) makeover with the following new features!
- Beautify with makeup: It doesn't always have to be serious... Sometimes AI is just fun to play with, like with makeup in Google Meet !
-
Set timers per speaker: You can now create meeting timers in the sidebar. Once started, the timer is visible to all participants. You can also pause or cancel the timer once it has started. Timers can be a valuable tool in online meetings to improve focus, manage time effectively, and ensure balanced participation. By demonstrating a visible, shared sense of time, they help structure the meeting and increase productivity.

- Extended notes: You can now configure the length of meeting notes using the "Make notes for me" feature in Google Meet. By selecting the "Longer" option from the menu With Notes Length , Gemini can generate notes approximately twice as long as the standard document, so you can capture all the important details. Enable longer notes for technical discussions or complex project meetings where every detail is crucial.

- Automatically connect to Google Meet hardware: Connect Room streamlines the process of starting meetings in a conference room. Instead of manually entering a meeting code, this feature uses ultrasonic proximity detection to identify an available Google Meet hardware device nearby .
When you open Google Meet on your laptop (or smartphone !), the room is automatically detected and you're given a simple option to connect. With one click, the meeting starts on the room's hardware, and your device switches to Companion Mode, so you're checked in and ready to meet without a hitch!

- Introducing a waiting room: Waiting rooms were added to Google Meet, giving you more control over your meeting. As a host or co-host, you can choose to place participants in a waiting room before they join the call. This feature is designed to prevent interruptions in meetings and give you time to prepare before admitting participants. From the waiting room, participants will see a message letting them know they're in the right place and will be added to the call soon. This ensures everyone joins the meeting at the right time!
