Google Chat has rolled out a series of powerful innovations that make digital collaboration faster, smarter, and more flexible. With these recent updates, the platform transforms from a simple chat app into a streamlined, automated headquarters.
Gemini directly in your chats
Workspace Intelligence takes another step forward. The deeper integration of Gemini into Chat brings artificial intelligence directly into your Spaces and conversations. With a simple prompt, Gemini summarizes missed messages within a conversation, filters out the most important decisions, and sets concrete action points for you. No more manually scrolling through long conversations to pick up the thread of a project. Ideal for when you've just returned from vacation!
Ask Gemini in Chat helps you plan your day, ensure smooth collaboration, find what you're looking for, and take action. Please note: this update does not yet apply to users whose account is set to Dutch. They will still see the Gemini sidebar as before, until this is rolled out in Dutch.
Until October 1, 2026, Workspace customers will receive promotional access to higher limits for Ask Gemini in Chat, to experiment with this feature. After that date, usage limits will apply.
Get external as a group
It is now possible to start group conversations with multiple external individuals simultaneously. Where previously you were limited to 1-on-1 conversations with people outside your organization or had to immediately set up a complete Space, you can now easily add external freelancers, suppliers, or customers to a simple group chat. Clear visual badges also ensure that everyone always knows that external guests are reading along. Restrict who can see members lists.
